This is HIP HOP! “I’ve seen heaven in the face of hell; my young mind rebel; freedom or jail; how my street tales sale!”
This is just one of many defining lyrics delivered with force and fluidity from Sammy Bravo. Born in DC to a single mother, the self proclaimed Donald Goines of the new millennium, has endured and survived the violent streets of the most powerful city in the world. Through his intelligence and sense of purpose, this street kid turned to Hip Hop to relieve the anguish and hopelessness offered by the HELL that is the ghetto. Sammy Bravo, a ghetto poet not just a lyrical stylist, is determined to pull his family out of poverty and educate the world about the truth about what is really happening to a whole generation of impoverished children. He rhymes from his soul and his lyrics vividly illustrate the reality of so many wretched experiences. Sammy Bravo’s career began at the early age of nine, rapping, breakdancing, and painting graffiti.
An original member of The Beggars, a Hip Hop group out of NW Washington DC, Bravo has been performing since the late eighties rapping at clubs in the Washington DC/ Metro area, New York, Philadelphia, North Carolina, and Atlanta. Bravo has rocked the spot in DC at club 2K9, State of the Union, the Metro Cafe, the Kaffa House, Howard University’s Cramton Auditorium, and the Mustache Cafe in Fort Belvoir, VA. He has danced at the Apollo Theatre in Harlem, NY, rapped at The Lion’s Den in Manhattan, NY, and moved the crowd and The Tunnel in Brooklyn, NY. The Electric Factory in Philadelphia, PA has hosted Sammy Bravo and showed him love. Bravo has been to the Dirty South and ripped at Club Alive in Raleigh, NC, and the Ying Yang Club in Atlanta, GA.
Sammy Bravo’s success in the music industry is imminent. He’s more than a rapper, he’ s an entertainer. His energy resonates throughout the venues of his live performances. He gives the crowd their money’s worth. His distinct voice and effortless delivery is hard to ignore once you have heard him. The depths of his words awaken the conscious, and the sublime rhythms of his songs make heads happily nod in appreciation. As one of the Chocolate City’s own, Sammy Bravo is well known and loved. He reps for his city and he plans to put Washington DC on the map as one of the hot spots in Hip Hop.
